Moving Volunteer

Whew!

This weekend's weather really didn't cooperate with us. The rain was non-stop and the wind was stronger than ever, but we ended up loading and moving in 3 new families this past weekend. I know the families were really grateful when we all had our ponchos on and were carrying chairs, tables, blenders, and flatware from the warehouse, to the trucks, driving the trucks to the apartments, upstairs and into their new homes. It was all worth it just to see their faces when it was all finished. Everyone deserves to have a safe and healthy home to live in. Even though we had some bumps along the way, we were able to help some people in need.

Can't wait to get those rain boots on and start again!!!

Drake Donor

Hi There!

Today, a group of friends and I took some old cooking supplies and chairs over to the FreeStore warehouse. The people that were working there were very friendly and welcoming. Instead of throwing away our older stuff, we thought it someone else might need this stuff and looked online for somewhere we could donate our stuff. We found FreeStore to be closer to us than other places and loaded our stuff in and drove on over. It seems that everyone is really dedicated to this cause and to helping women and families of domestic violence have a more comfortable and stress free lifestyle. I will for sure think of them again when getting rid of household items.

Great Job!!

Thank You FreeStore!

3 years ago I would never imagine that I would be where I am today. My kids and I are very happy in our new place and are getting accustomed to cooking family meals every night. FreeStore has helped me get comfortable in our new apartment. Now having furniture in our living room and bedrooms makes living here so much better. My two kids are always at their desks doing their homework and I couldn't thank FreeStore enough for making that happen. I can't wait to invite some of my friends over and show them our new lives.

First Time Donator

Last weekend was me and my family's first time donating items to FreeStore. I really enjoyed getting to know the people behind the scenes. I think it is important for a non-profit organization to work well with their clients and customers in order to maintain a good reputation. I will for sure let other people in my neighborhood know about this organization when they are thinking of getting rid of some household items. FreeStore does some amazing things for people around central Iowa and I am glad to be apart of helping change lives.

Thank you FreeStore!

WELCOME

Hello Everyone!
Founded in 2001, the FreeStore provides household items and furniture free of charge to women when they leave the Children & Families of Iowa's Domestic Violence Services. We also provide these same items to needy families from other social agencies for a nominal fee. The FreeStore is entirely run by volunteers, with NO paid staff. Volunteers are always needed to pick up furniture, organize items in the warehouse, greet clients, help clients move into their new apartments, and raise funds.
We have decided to start this blog to help our many different customers and clients connect with each and other and share their stories of their own FreeStore experience. We LOVE hearing thoughts and comments about the people that help our organization operate and grow. Posts will remain annoynmous so as our clients will remain safe.
Enjoy reading!
